Just this afternoon, Athens filed a lawsuit against the city to prevent the people from voting on the Referendum.

As you know, Rosie Vasquez signed the Athens contract last week. Vasquez spit in the face of 6,323 residents who said "Stop the Backroom Deal," and gave Athens an excuse to file their lawsuit.
Way to go Rosie…you're always looking out for your city and residents…NOT!
Today, the Los Angeles County Registrar Recorder's office returned the verified signatures for the Referendum to stop the Athens Disposal Services contract in Montebello.
Nearly double the number of required signatures was found sufficient.

The October 8, 2008 Council Meeting is the next regularly scheduled meeting at which the City Council must take up this matter. The Council can either overturn their previous decision or place the issue on the ballot.
